Marjie Erkkila

Living quietly in a remote valley within the mountaintops of West Texas, my close contact with nature's extraordinary miracles invites and compels me to create my art in a variety of media. My designs often feature horses, representing the spirit which cannot be broken but is, instead, forever free.

In my sterling silver jewelry, many of the semi-precious stones I use have been cut and polished in my studio after adventurous rock hunting trips to the mountains of Northern Mexico. My jewelry and sculptures have won many awards from coast to coast and my work has appeared in newspapers and magazines. I was one of ten artists juried into a show at the Kentucky Derby Museum after an international competition. More recently, I was invited to participate in the prestigious "Trappings of Texas Show" at the Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine, Texas.

In addition, my photography remains a pleasurable passion. It has appeared in the internationally distributed magazines Horse Illustrated, Dog Fancy, Cat Fancy, and Bird Talk.
